President's Message:
Welcome to Southern New Jersey ASHE’s new website! Here you can view our newsletter, Baseline, check out upcoming events, and view photos and recaps from past events. We are working towards adding increased functionality to this website including membership listings, the ability to register and pay for meetings and membership dues online, and much more. Many thanks to Stokes Advertising for their generosity in supporting www.ashesnj.org. Please check back often! In 2009-2010 our industry faces a unique challenge. In a time when the larger economy is suffering, transportation engineering is booming. Large programs and construction projects are plentiful in hopes of stimulating economic recovery. As owners, designers, contractors and suppliers, it is up to us to collectively meet this challenge by delivering successfully completed projects. With this in mind, we are preparing an exciting program for this year which will include some old favorites, such as presentations on marquee or challenging projects. We are also inviting several key leaders of transportation agencies to join us at our meetings, and so far have received commitments from NJDOT Commissioner Stephen Dilts (as part of a joint meeting led by NJ Consulting Engineers Council), leadership of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, and the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. We expect these leaders, and others whose invitations are still pending, to speak about their aggressive programs and/or special projects.Beyond our regular meetings, we expect another great year of events and programs including our annual social night, an expanded NJ ASHE Project of the Year Program, annual golf outing and scholarship program. Look for more information on these events as the year progresses. I encourage you to join SNJ ASHE if you are not already a member. Our annual dues are only $30 – a very inexpensive way to network with your peers and learn more about the industry in which you are a participant.
